“ Was nice except the music was so loud my head throbbed and it was difficult to talk. The drinks were outrageously expensive, though the bartender was a character and helpful. ”

“ Not a lot of seating in the lounge area which can be good and bad. It forces mingling, but might be uncomfortable for some people. Enthusiastic service with a smile. Go early for a meetup. After about 9pm, a DJ steps in and the place gets loud. ”

“ I don't want to say Candelas was "bad" but I thought the bartender was a little on the hostile side and that they seemed like maybe they were understaffed; I stood at the bar for quite a while waiting to order a drink and finally just gave up. I noticed that a couple of women who were there before me ended up waiting a ridiculously long time for their drinks. Combined with the bartenders attitude, it was kind of unprofessional. As far as the historic aspect of the bar, unfortunately that place has been so extensively altered that the only original features seem to be the exposed brick, which probably wasn't even exposed originally. Sadly, San Diego has a bad record for having gutted almost all of its historic commercial buildings. It's pathetic, actually. ”
