Hello Ladies and Gents!

Below are the final details for tomorrow night's Cocktails in Historic San Diego event!

When: May 28, 2009 6:30 PM

Where: Coronado Boathouse 1887
1701 Strand Way
Coronado, CA 92118
(619) 435-0155

WHY YOU WANT TO BE THERE

This event is jam-packed with Coronado history! The Coronado Boat House was the original home of the Scripps Institute. It is a one of a kind gem you may have never even noticed. Its construction was a practice run for the men who built perhaps the most iconic building in all of San Diego: The Hotel Del Coronado. Our time at the Boathouse will be approx 2 hours, including an overview of the site's history (with prizes).

A couple of hours at our first stop and then we'll stroll a few paces to another, often-overlooked gem, and one of my favorite buildings, the former Spreckels Mansion. We will pause in the conservatory to reflect on the Spreckels legacy before finally, round out the evening next door at the former Elijah Babcock House, once home to the man who built the Del. This final stop has a very tenuous tie to an infamous British noble AND a cantina known for delicioso Margaritas!

Please take a moment to make sure that your RSVP accurately reflects your intention to attend.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS
  • From I-5 South (Downtown), cross the Coronado Bridge, stay in the left lane, and follow the main road (Pomona / 3rd) to Orange Avenue -- and make a left!

Note: For newcomers / out-of-towners, please note that there is no longer a toll.
At the far end of the bridge, simply drive past the toll booths.

  • Drive south on Orange Avenue and it will curve toward the Hotel del Coronado
  • Pass the grounds to the Hotel Del Coronado (on your right)
  • Orange Avenue turns into Strand Way
  • Drive past the Boathouse 1887 Restaurant (on your left, divided highway)
  • Make a turn at "Avenida de las Arenas"
  • If you plan on parking on the street, turn left into the parking lot at this lot, park your car toward the Boathouse on your left.
  • If you plan on Valet Parking at the Boathouse -- make a full U turn -- drive back up to the Boathouse 1887 Restaurant (on your right, now) -- and turn into their valet parking circle.

PARKING

There are several great (and secure) places to park. All locations are well lit.

  • Valet Parking at the Boathouse 1887 (see above)
  • Street Parking near Boathhouse 1887 after you make a turn at Avenida de las Arenas
  • There is underground parking near the corner of Orange Avenue and R.H. Dana place. Just Turn south on R.H. Dana Place and you'll see the ramp heading downward on the right-hand side
  • If you are familiar with Coronado, there is plenty of street parking all around town. Just park and walk! :)
